Netiquette

Netiquette is how to behave yourself on line. Basically, you should have fun, post on topic, be polite and keep your brain switched on. The points below expand a litte on this.

  • When posting, be polite, succinct and positive.
  • Before asking a question, check if that question has already been asked. Read the groups FAQ and search using groups.google.
  • When asking a question, give enough info. A posting like "my software won't run" is difficult to diagnose. For example, state the software name and version, what OS and quote the actual error message. Also state what you've already looked at or done to try to solve it.
  • Only reply if you have something of value to add. Posts saying "me too" and "I don't know" just waste others time and bandwidth.
  • When replying, don't simply include the whole previous post. Cut out all but the relevant parts.
  • Post in ASCII text, not html.
  • Mungle your email address. (This is so it can't be harvested by a bot for spam.)
  • don't post binary files, except in binary groups.
  • Don't reply to trolls.
