The Berry Families

Two of my g grandmothers with the same maiden surname; Alice Berry and Minnie Crane Berry. So far, we haven't found an earlier link between these two families.

Minnie Crane Berry was born in 1869 at Wakapuaka, just north of Nelson, daughter of William Henry and Eliza (nee Crane) Berry. W H Berry was sexton at the Wakapuaka cemetery for about thirty years, retiring in 1902. In 1896, Minnie married Robert Henry Emms at Christchurch.

Alice Berry's father, Frederick Berry (1844-1902), was born in London, England. In 1876, he married Sarah Ann Wainwright (1858-1936) at Springston, NZ. Sarah Ann and her parents, Charles and Sarah (nee Keeling) Wainwright had come from Nottinghamshire to NZ aboard the Cresswell, arriving at Lyttelton in 1859.
In 1906, Alice Berry (1887-1958) married George Ernest Morris at Ashburton. Particulars from their marriage certificate are reproduced below. (Certificate reference 1906/2878)
