William Robert Emms (1833-1901) was born at Wells-Next-The-Sea in Norfolk, England. A mariner by trade, he was (with Mr Bullard) proprietor of water barges at Nelson before the establishment of town waterworks. In 1866, he married Amelia Emma Jones (1844-1902) at Nelson. Amelia's father, Evan Frederick Jones (1818-1888) ran a saddlery and harness manufacturing and sales business. This was later taken over by his sons, Frederick and William. William and Amelia had nine children.
In 1896, Robert Emms married Minnie Crane Berry (my great grandparents). Particulars from their marriage certificate are reproduced below. (Certificate reference 1896/4845) |
